Thanks again, everybody!

Filed under: by VeryVito at 4:40 pm — [Tag on del.icio.us]

As many of you know, August has been an interesting month here at Turdhead.com. To be fair, it's actually only our second month on the net, but we're proud of what we've accomplished so far: notices on slashdot, ilovebacon.com, Albino Blacksheep, JengaJam and a host of other Web favorites. Pretty good for something we almost didn't do, eh?

As we end the month, I just want to thank all of the great writers, bloggers and posters who have helped us get our name out so far, and I especially want to thank Jaguar|LLC Technologies, our hosting provider, whose excellent service and reliability so far rates above any of the many hosting providers I've used in the past. If you're looking for hosting, drop in and check out their GigaDeal, and let them know Turdhead sent you.

Meanwhile, thanks again, and stay tuned! We've got plenty of new content in the works for September (a new game really IS coming out soon; honest!), and we look forward to seeing you back!

Jabberwocky Redux: Are we geek enough now?

Filed under: by VeryVito at 2:03 am — [Tag on del.icio.us]

We're still scratching our heads over what happened this week.

It started simply enough: I was avoiding real work — this time on the latest Li'l Johnny's Adventure game, and I happened to write a few lines of Actionscript code based upon Lewis Carroll's nonsense poem, "The Jabberwocky." Turns out, a couple of my coworkers liked the piece, so I put it up on Turdhead for the world to ignore.

But this time, thanks to a

brief article on Slashdot, something happened: The hitherto-unknown Turdhead.com apparently and inadvertently had lobbed a grenade into an existing turf battle between the fledgling Actionscript programming community and the more established "traditional" programming legions (who apparently take the title of "geek" pretty seriously!). The ActionScript Jabberwocky

It may not be apparent from many of the random postings I've made here, but one of the main reasons for the existence of Turdhead.com is to provide a space for creative Web-based art, writing, animation and of course, lens flare effects. A turdhead is, after all, not only a geek (of which the internet is full), but also a generally well-read, cultured and sociable sort — a geek that occasionally makes it out into the real world, not only by accident but occasionally even under their own free will.

With that in mind, I have decided to revel in my geekdom and admit that the following sort of thing actually DOES provide me with some sick sense of nerd amusement. It will probably appeal only to fellow Flash programmers, and even then perhaps, only to the true Actionscript aficionado, but regardless, we (i.e., I) hope you enjoy the following:

Li’l Johnny a trojan? Not hardly.

Filed under: by VeryVito at 10:04 am — [Tag on del.icio.us]

I've received several emails lately claiming that our beloved Li'l Johnny was trying to install something nasty on peoples machines. Obviously, I was stumped — until a few minutes ago, when someone sent me a message saying that the bug was listed as "Exploit-InvCSS" (an IE stylesheet bug documented here: http://www.ecqu...dv/IEstyle.html).

Now I have to laugh,

but I've grudgingly changed the system so this doesn't become an issue. As it was, this "feature" — which is caused by a malformed stylesheet being sent to IE — only presented itself when a user attempted to access the high-score server WITHOUT running the Li'l Johnny swf (i.e., they were trying to hack the high-score system! That is, they were cheating. And they got caught. And they wet themselves like frightened little girls.).

Shameless begging, panhandling and soul-sucking indignity

Want to show your appreciation for Turdhead.com, its products or services? Although it's certainly not necessary, we'd be pleased as punch if you felt like donating any amount you'd like, or even if you just wanted to give us a nod on Digg.com. Honestly, we have no pride whatsoever (the name of the site is Turdhead.com, after all), and we'll take any recognition we can get for our efforts here.
