The coolest invention ever: Teen-ager repellent
Yeah, I know I’m getting old, but, this article fills me with newfound hope for a better tomorrow. An inventor from Wales has discovered the holy grail for old farts like me: A “brown noise” of sorts, that literally repels teen-agers and leaves us old farts be.
Oh, wait… Can I, as a flash developer who makes his living on the Web, really spurn the teen generation today? I mean… Never mind. Carry on, youth! And disregard the ambient noise.
Ah, what a brave new world, that hath such people in it…
Firefox 1.5 finally released!
And there was a great rejoicing.
After months of trying to decide whether to go ahead and use the beta version of the next big release, fans of the Firefox browser can at last go ahead and upgrade: The Mozilla Project has officially released Firefox 1.5, the patiently-awaited “almost major” upgrade to the popular Firefox browser.
What’s included? See for yourself. And if you’re still using Internet Explorer (snicker), I have to ask: What the hell is wrong with you? Don’t you realize IE 6.0 is sooooo 1990s? (Not to mention riddled with an ever-increasing number of backdoor exploits).
What are you waiting for? Go get Firefox.
ReplayTV vs. Tivo: Should I care?
I have to confess to a weakness in my geekness: Although I readily admit to being a geek of the first magnitude, I cannot be considered — in any way — to be an “A/V geek.”
I simply have no knowledge of — and really, no interest in — whether the Tritanica XLG AirWoof 9000 Multimedia Transceiver with Wi-Fi/Bluetooth/Steel-belted orange peeler is really any better than the second generation Blastfactory OmniHD Pro Z3 Handheld Video Duplitasticator. But sometimes I want to know.
That said, anybody got any preferences when it comes to choosing between Tivo or ReplayTV (or some other DVR technology) for recording reruns of House and 24? I’m not looking for the latest, greatest thing; I just want to come home and watch Monk on those occasional nights when I forget to program the Betamax.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!
I want to love OS X, but Apple lackeys won’t let me
About three years ago, I made the switch to OS X for my personal computing system. I’ve never regretted it, and I’ve been looking forward to the new Intel/Apple machines for months now. So why does Apple choose the holiday season — the time I’m actually considering the purchase of a new machine — to flat-out piss me off?
Just in time for holiday traveling, the AC adapter (aka the “plugger inner”) for my iBook decided to quit working on me. This shouldn’t be a big deal, but as the adapter is less than three months old, it rather irks me (The fact that it’s the second adapter I’ve purchased in the past year makes it even more irksome). No problem, though: I have an Apple Store in my hometown, and I can simply trade it in there, as it does have a one-year warranty. Right?

I think we’re back… no thanks to the spam demons
On behalf of your captain and the rest of the flight crew, I’d like to apologize for any incovenience the up-and-down motion of Turdhead.com may have caused today.
After spending a day recovering from a hacking attempt — and updating several WordPress-based modules along the way — I think we’ve got Turdhead.com back together again. It’s been a while since the blogspam defenses have been down, though, and I was blown away by the sheer volume of spam I received in the few minutes shields were lowered. More than 200 messages in 30 minutes. There’s got to be a way to beat these idiots; I’m leaning toward mallets and sledgehammers, myself.
Regardless, I think I’ve got the shields back up again; I just hope I haven’t barricaded myself too heavily against the onslaught of the spammers. If anybody wants to offer a hand, I’d appreciate you’re leaving a comment here — just to make sure you still can.
Thanks!
